On Thursday, I visited FIRST FUSILIERS at Tidworth Garrison for our famous Inter-Company Boxing Championships – the HART’S MEDALS. It was fantastic to see the ‘DARK DESTROYER’ back at home with the Battalion in his new role: Ambassador for Fusiliers and Fusilier Boxing. The two time World Middleweight Champion Nigel Benn presented prizes and sparred with the boxers during the week – Fusilier Benn, thank you very much for all your support!

For info: The Hart’s Medals are boxed in memory of Captain Hart of the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. Hart was killed in action during a German offensive on 8th May 1915 at Ypres. Despite being surrounded and running low on ammunition, when called upon to surrender Captain Hart responded “SURRENDER BE DAMMED!” The original medals were presented by his family in his memory.

Congratulations to W Company and all of the boxers who all showed great courage and character!

“I welcome feedback from anyone in the Fusilier family.  Whether it’s your experience at the sharp end, ideas for the Regiment or issues you don’t feel are being sorted, let me know at [email protected]
