Street renamed in memory of Sergeant Simon Valentine

A street renaming ceremony has taken place to honour the memory of Sergeant Simon Valentine who was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2009 with Second Fusiliers.

In a fitting tribute, Sgt Valentine's former colleagues, including Major Chris Danby, his platoon commander on the tour, also attended the ceremony alongside family and friends.

The road chosen by the council to bear Sgt Valentine's name is the same road used annually on Remembrance Sunday, giving the location extra and poignant significance.
